Kate Twohig graduated from University College Cork in 2014 with a first class honours bachelor of music degree focusing on original music, performance and arrangement. Her instruments are piano, keyboards and voice while she is drawn to string instruments, particularly cello, when arranging music.
As a singer-songwriter she has gigged extensively across Ireland with her own music and band, as well as playing keys and singing backing vocals for others.
After graduating Kate spent years teaching piano and singing in various music schools across Cork city. She also arranged for and played in a wedding quartet and played/sang in a number of cover bands during her time in Cork.
Since moving back to Clonmel she has been delighted to be involved in the vibrant creative scene of her hometown. In 2021 Kate was musical director of the Arts Council funded outdoor production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, has composed an original score for the short film Pre-show and is currently writing an original score for the upcoming original show From Out The Land, produced by the Clonmel Junction Arts Festival.
As well as playing and writing music, Kate holds a first class honours Master’s Degree in Festive Arts from UL and worked on established arts and music festivals in Ireland before starting a new yearly music festival, When Next We Meet last summer.
Kate is really looking excited to get back to teaching piano and can’t wait to meet all the wonderful students at Bellvue! She believes music is for everyone and is passionate about an accessible approach to learning piano.
